Lightning Thunderbolt vs. ....what else?

---I am looking at getting a first recumbent. Pricewise, $1000 is the max, maybe could go $1200 for something truly renowned. I am interested in CWB or CLWB's, and am more interested in 20/26's than 20/20's. I don't like the LWB's, as I have a SUV and no roof rack, and I want something that can easily fit into the back of the SUV. I stand about 6'2" / inseam=32" and currently weigh 275 lbs. I am mainly doing local casual riding, no touring, no racing. I am in the St Louis MO area; I...

I picked up my new-to-me rocket this past weekend. I rode it a little bit yesterday but I was so cranky after having traveled all weekend that it wasn't nearly as much fun as it could have been. It was 87 degrees out (wasn't it 40 degrees last week?) and the wind was blowing pretty hard. I was having problems maintaining a straight line and starting and stopping gracefully. EVERYONE was staring at me and making comments. It's hard to learn to ride a bike when everyone is staring at you and...

I'm new to recumbents. I have yet to purchase a bent but of those tested (V2, Rocket, V-Rex) I like the V-rex the best.

My question is this: Is the V-Rex suitable for occasional (2-3 per year) tours in the 500 mile range. I'm a Motel 6 & a Visa type of tourer, no tents or sleeping bags or cooking gear.

I'll use the bike mainly for local rides of 10-100 miles but I want something that is also suitable for occasional touring.

I tested the V2 immediately after the...

Sounds like I'm a little younger (37) than the average male recumbent shopper, but here's my situation: Last May I was injured in a car accident (rammed from behind by a Chevy Tahoe whose driver was stomping on the wrong pedal). Since October I've been able to do shorter rides of up to 2 or occasionally 3 hours - both road and off-road - without aggravating my neck pain.

As a test, I recently did a 4 hour, 50+ mile road ride.
Hi, new here. Thinking of getting a Bent due to health issues with my racing bike (DF). I am interested in a high racer either an Aero or a Volae but at 5'5, would the Aero Basso be the best choice? What would be the difference in handling due to the smaller front wheel? Also, as a totaly bent neophyte, would learning on a high-racer be a bad choice? I don't want to spend a bunch of money only to have to upgrade in a few months. I enjoy going fast and will have to keep up with...

I am thinking of riding a recumbent about 65 miles each day for two days (the TORSV ride from Tallahassee, FL to Albany, GA). I rode the same ride last year on an upright bike. Do you think this a foolish mistake to ride a recumbent this many miles when I have only ridden a recumbent a total of 100 miles prior to this.

Also, how long should I wait before putting my clip on pedals on the recumbent ( I have Shimano sandals)?
Any comments out there? I tried a very old tour easy bent and rode it on a paved trail (no traffic) for about 40 miles. Found it very comfortable. Then I tried a Burley Django swb and was unable to start on my own. I then went to a dealer with more knowledge and patience and tried the RANS V2 and the BACHETTA GIRO. He helped me a great deal in learning to start on the Bachetta. I felt slightly more comfortable on the Rans but I felt more in control on the Bachetta. I am concerned about...

The wear and tear of excercise has a way of creeping up on you. After sixty thousand miles of cycling I was faced this February with at best a long lay off, or worse yet; giving up cycling. Given that it was an easy decision to go 'bent. I plunged in without a lot of research and bought an R-200. This could be a tragedy however I'm not experiencing the problems associated with this bike. I managed to put 350 miles on it this month despite lingering winter. I enjoy it a lot. Of course I'm...

I noticed that the cable housing that came on the bike was a bit short and with use the housing is kinking where it exits the brake levers and shifters. I would also like to clean up the cable routing as not to have the big bunch of dangling cables out front. Have any of you come up with new ways to run the cables?
